My son and his wife are expecting their first child, our first grandson, Ryan Patrick, around mid-November, 2003.  They asked me to design and build three pieces of furniture for the new baby.  I went to a local baby store and got some ideas.  The results can be seen by clicking the above pictures.

All the furniture was constructed using Sassafras.  I got the hardware from Rockler, McFeeleys, Knobs 'R Us and Home Depot.  Labor not withstanding, the whole project cost $400.  One piece from from the local baby furniture store was $495!  The finish was Pilgrim Maple dye, 2# cut shellac and WB lacquer.

They chose a nautical theme for the room.  My wife and I bought a small sail boat while we were visiting St. Augustine, Florida.  I built a small shelf with galley rails for the boat.  They bought porcelain knobs with a sail boat image.  The result is quite nice.

Update:  Ryan Patrick is here!  Born on November 28, 2003, he weighed 10 lbs. 7 ounces and was 21 inches long!
