Commercial Job - Book Case

This was our first commercial job.  The client wanted a 15' long by 7 1/2' high book case.  Made from 3/4" Oak veneer plywood and solid Oak face frame, this was one BIG job!

To make this job manageable, we created six 2' wide shelf units and one 3' wide breakfront cabinet with glass doors on the top and raised panel doors on the bottom.  Technically, the job was straight forward but physically it was a challenge.  One issue that had to be addressed was heat vents in the floor.  The book case would hide them.  I made a 6" high pedestal so I could route the vents back into the room.

The finish is Golden Oak stain, poly and polished brass hardware.  All the shelves are adjustable requiring more holes to be drilled than I ever want to drill again!  At the time I had a 9.6V Makita and a 9.6V DeWalt drill.  I couldn't keep batteries charged fast enough.  It took a couple days to drill all the holes.

The final install went very well.  I used crown molding to cap the top.

The client was so happy with the job, she gave me a $300 bonus!  Can you imagine?
