I was commissioned to build a Bunk Bed Suite. It is comprised of the bunk bed, the ladder, a three drawer chest of drawers, a three drawer filing cabinet, a desk, a book case (under the bed), and a wall hanging book case. Made from red oak, the bed elements are made from 5/4 stock, the accessories are made from red oak veneer cabinet grade plywood and 4/4 solid oak. It is finished with oil based stain and water based lacquer.
The design allows for disassembly. All joints are connected using 1/4-20 bolts finished in bronze. 1/4-20 brass inserts provide the connection. The desk unit has a grommet to allow for electrical cords to pass through the top to the electrical outlet below. The wall hanging bookcase has two grommets, one on the top and one on the bottom. The customer wants to put a flat screen TV on the top of the bookshelf - eye level with the bed, and the two grommets allow for the cable and power cords to "pass through" to the outlets below the book case.
